Your options

Two ways to straighten your teeth

Both move teeth with gentle, steady pressure. The difference is how they look and how they fit into your day. We’ll recommend the one that suits your teeth and your lifestyle.

Braces

Modern fixed braces

Looks
Small brackets bonded to the teeth and joined by a fine wire.
Wear
Fixed in place, so they work around the clock.
Eating
Avoid hard and sticky foods during treatment.
Cleaning
A little extra care around the brackets. We’ll show you how.
Suits
More complex tooth movements, and anyone who’d rather not manage removable trays.

Aligners and braces can fix crowding, gaps, and teeth that sit forward or twisted. Choose a common concern below to see the kind of change involved.

Your dentists

Three dentists with a special interest in straightening teeth

Each of them has extra training in orthodontics. Dr Guy and Dr Sean treat braces and aligner patients, and Dr Nipuni treats aligner patients only.

How it works

From first visit to finished smile

  1. Consultation

Your first visit is a consult. We examine your mouth and bite and talk through what you’d like to change.

  2. Records

After a check-up and clean, we take photos, a scan and X-rays. Aligner patients then review a 3D simulation of their plan about two weeks later.

  3. Fitting day

We fit your first aligners or place your braces, and send you home with our aftercare guide.

  4. Check-ins

Short, regular visits keep your treatment on track and let us make adjustments.

  5. Retainers

Once your teeth are in place, a fixed or removable retainer helps keep them there.

Common questions

Before you book

How long does treatment take?

It depends on how far your teeth need to move. Simple aligner cases can take a matter of months, while more complex cases take longer. You’ll get an estimated timeframe in your treatment plan before you start.

Am I too old for braces or aligners?

No. Teeth can be moved at any age as long as your gums and the bone around your teeth are healthy. Many of our aligner patients are adults.

Are aligners and braces suitable for teenagers?

Yes. Both work well for teens. Aligners suit teens who will wear them for about 22 hours a day, and we’ll help you work out which option fits your family.

Can I eat and drink with aligners in?

Plain water is fine. Take your aligners out to eat and for any other drink. With braces you can eat most foods, but avoid hard, sticky and chewy ones. Our aligner and braces aftercare guides have the details.

Does it hurt?

Most people feel some pressure or tenderness for a day or two when they start a new set of aligners or have braces adjusted. It usually settles quickly.

What do I need before I start?

Treatment works best in a healthy mouth. You’ll need a full dental exam, a professional clean and bitewing X-rays, and any fillings or gum care done first. We can do all of this here.

Who provides braces and who provides aligners?

Dr Guy Turton and Dr Sean Weragoda provide both clear aligners and braces. Dr Nipuni Bopitiya provides clear aligners only.

Are your dentists orthodontists?

Dr Sean, Dr Guy and Dr Nipuni are general dentists with additional training and a special interest in orthodontics. If your case needs a specialist orthodontist, we’ll let you know and arrange a referral.
