Clear aligners are a series of thin, removable plastic trays. Each one moves your teeth a small, planned amount. You change to the next set every week or two until your teeth reach their new positions.
We usually use the Angelalign system. Your dentist’s diagnosis and prescription are combined with Angelalign’s software to map out each movement, and your aligners are made specifically for you.
We can do your check-up, clean and X-rays here first. About check-ups
Your first visit is a consult: we examine your mouth and bite and talk through your options. Before treatment you’ll also need a clean and bitewing X-rays, with any fillings or gum care done first.
We take photos and a 3D scan of your teeth, complete an orthodontic exam and refer you for X-rays at a local radiology clinic.
Your plan takes about two weeks to prepare. You’ll review the simulation with your dentist and see your estimated timeframe.
Once you approve the plan, your aligners are made. Each set is numbered and comes with clear instructions. Wear them about 22 hours a day.
Regular visits keep you on track. Many patients have a new scan and refinement aligners after the first series.
At the end you’ll get clear retainers to hold your teeth in their new positions.

Take aligners out to eat and for any drink other than plain water, like coffee, tea, juice, soft drinks or flavoured water.
Rinse them in cool or lukewarm water and clean them as your dentist shows you. Hot water can warp them.
Store them in their case whenever they’re out. Keep them away from pets. Dogs love to chew them!

Aligners only move teeth while they’re in. Unless your dentist says otherwise, wear them about 22 hours a day and take them out only to eat, brush and floss. Not wearing them enough can stall treatment.
Most patients need small tooth-coloured attachments bonded to some teeth, and some need elastics. These are removed at the end. It’s also common to need a new scan and a set of refinement aligners after the first series.
Teeth tend to drift back after they’re moved. You’ll get clear retainers at the end, and wearing them as instructed is just as important as the aligners.
Because teeth vary in shape, wear and gum level, some patients choose recontouring, bonding, veneers, crowns or gum recontouring after alignment. Your dentist will talk you through any options.
Like all orthodontic treatment, aligners can cause temporary tenderness, a short-lived lisp, gum irritation and, rarely, root shortening, jaw joint discomfort or allergic reactions. Decay and white marks can happen if teeth aren’t kept clean. The aligner information pack lists them all.

It depends on how far your teeth need to move. Your 3D plan shows the number of aligners and an estimated timeframe before you commit. Wearing aligners as instructed is the biggest factor in staying on schedule.

Plain water is fine. Take your aligners out to eat, and for any other drink, including coffee, tea, juice and soft drinks. Sugary or acidic drinks trapped under an aligner can cause decay and staining.
